Why keep rushing when you could choose the road that fewer take? With Baikunthapur Tour & Travels, the Silk Route becomes more than just a journey. It’s your escape into nature’s wonders. Don’t miss this chance to uncover the secrets of Sikkim’s quieter side.
Your trip begins as soon as you arrive at NJP railway station or Bagdogra airport. A drive takes you through misty hills, winding all the way to Sillery Gaon, sitting 6,000 feet above the world. Tucked in by thick forests, this place offers clear views of Mount Kanchenjunga. Take a walk, breathe in the peace, and then head back for a home-cooked meal at your homestay. Night falls, and you’ll be settling in for a peaceful sleep at Sillery Gaon.
The first light touches the peaks, and it’s time to move again. After breakfast, we head out to Zuluk, sitting 10,000 feet up. Along the way, stop by Lampokhari Lake at Aritar and see the Aritar Monastery, a quiet, historic gem. At Rongli, there’s some paperwork for the Restricted Area Permit, but the journey continues with Kuikhola Waterfalls marking the way. As the day closes, you’ll be in Zuluk, just in time to see the sunset from Balasiur Sunset Point. Tonight, you sleep high in the mountains.
Breakfast done, we hit the road again. First stop: Thambi Viewpoint, where the Silk Route’s zigzagging road, with its 99 hairpin bends, gives you a thrill just looking at it. From here, it’s on to Nathang Valley, which has earned the nickname “Ladakh of Sikkim” for its sweeping, barren landscapes. The Old Baba Mandir, the elephant-shaped Kupup Lake, and Yak Golf Course – the highest in the world – make for unforgettable stops. When the day’s done, rest up in Nathang Valley.
The morning starts early with a short climb to Eagle’s Nest Bunker. At 13,700 feet, the view stretches all the way across to the Tibetan Plateau. After breakfast, it’s time to head down to Aritar, stopping in Padamchen along the way. Aritar is known for its layered, step-farmed hills, and the Lampokhari Lake, where you can take a quiet boat ride. You’ll spend the night in Aritar, soaking in the calm.
On your last day, you’ll take one more walk, up to Mankhim Hilltop, for a final look at Kanchenjunga. After breakfast, the drive back to NJP or Bagdogra starts. There’s one last stop by the Teesta River for a photo or two before the trip ends. Your time on the Silk Route might be done, but the moments? Those stay with you forever.
